Kuwanokidai Wetland

This wetland is located at an elevation of 690 m, created by the debris avalanche of Mt. Chōkai long ago. Amidst a forest of Japanese beech trees (Fagus crenata) and deciduous shrubs, the wetland spreads over an area of about 8 hectares (1 ha = 10,000 m2).
Visitors can enjoy nature while walking along the wooden paths. Around June, when some snow still remains on Mt. Chōkai, the cotton-tipped stalks of hare’s-tail cottongrass (Eriophorum vaginatum) and the brightly-colored Japanese azalea (Rhododendron molle subsp. Japonicum) make a beautiful sight.
