Mt. Chōkai Ōmonoimi Shrine (Fukura-kuchi-no-miya)

Mt. Chōkai Ōmonoimi Shrine is the Ichinomiya (highest-ranking shrine) of the former Dewa Province. A festival was held in 1963 to commemorate its 1,400th anniversary, so it is thought to be the oldest shrine in the Shōnai region. The main shrine is located at the summit of Mt. Chōkai and there are two village shrines (called kuchi-no-miya) at the foot of the mountain, one in the Fukura area and the other in the Warabioka area.
