Moriko Ōmonoimi Shrine

This shrine has a sacred atmosphere and is surrounded by Japanese cedar trees (Cryptomeria japonica). It is an important place for mountain worship on Mt. Chōkai and the ascetic religion Shugendō.

In recent years, the annual festival held on the third Sunday in April offers the impressive sight of young people climbing 300 steps carrying the mikoshi portable shrine, said to be equivalent to ten bales of rice (approximately 600 kg).
