This sweet treat is made from mochi rice grown in the Shōnai Plain, known as an important region for growing rice in Japan. The mochi rice is cooked together with a type of green soybean called Kurakake-mame, which has a seaweed-like aroma. Mulberry leaves are added to create a delicate sweetness. The name “Yoshiko-chan” is a play-on-words, derived from the Japanese word for reed (yoshi) and the idea that eating it is good (yoshi) for your health.
This product can be enjoyed by all ages, from children to the elderly, and can also be kept as a preserved food.
