Tobishima Island is a small island located 39 km off the coast of Sakata City, about 10 km in circumference. On this land formed a long time ago by undersea volcanoes, island farmers have grown delicious potatoes called godo-imo, known for their sweetness and soft texture. In recent years, the aging and declining population has reduced the amount of potatoes grown here. As a result, godo-imo has become an elusive potato that is rarely shipped off the island.
This shōchū is made with Tobishima Island’s godo-imo potatoes, spring water from Mt. Chokai, and rice from the Shōnai Plain. It is a distilled alcoholic beverage with the light, gentle sweetness of godo-imo potatoes.
