Located at an elevation of about 1400 m, Kaigata Perennial Snowpatch lies in a depression between multiple paths where lava once flowed from Mt. Chōkai. Large amounts of snow blow through here, accumulating in the depression to form a snowpatch. The snow piled up here drifts like a glacier. Some of the snow remains frozen throughout the year (called perennial snow), serving as a natural reservoir. This helps protect the rivers at the foot of the mountain from drying up even in the middle of summer.

There is no hiking trail leading here, but the snowpatch can be seen at a distance from the wetland area near Yunodai Trailhead, or from the parking lot at Tamasudare Waterfall.
