Yuri Coast Seawall

These stone walls are estimated to have been built in the 18th century (Edo period). Their purpose was to protect farmland, crops, and coastal roads from salt damage caused by the strong wind and waves of the Sea of Japan. The wisdom of the people who built the walls can be seen throughout their design, with 30–50 cm natural stones on the surface and smaller rocks on the inside, as well as the placement of the drainage paths.
