Takamori Overlook

This view point is located about 230 m above sea level on Akita Prefectural Route 32, which runs from Nikaho up toward Yurihara.
Looking west from here, you can see the plain from Kisakata to Nikaho and the coastline of the Sea of Japan.

The various-sized hills scattered across the plain are called hummocks, and were created by a debris avalanche that occurred during the sector collapse of Mt. Chokai about 2,500 years ago.
The size of the debris avalanche was approximately 6 billion tons—enough to fill Tokyo Dome 2,300 times. It flowed as fast as a bullet train, reclaiming the former coastline and creating these plains and hummocks.
